About

The National Farm Attractions Network (NFAN) is the leading voice for UK farm attractions, supporting over 300 farm parks and trade members across the country.

Known for their strong community, annual conference, and commitment to industry standards through the AAA Scheme, NFAN plays a central role in helping farm attractions meet, share knowledge, and grow.

As a long-standing organisation, they needed a website that reflected the professionalism and scale of the industry they represent.

They came to us with a clear challenge:
“How do we make the website easier for members to use and simpler for us to manage?”

Challenge

While NFAN had credibility and a loyal membership base, their website was creating friction rather than removing it.

The biggest issues centred around the members’ portal. Renewals were difficult. Event bookings were not straightforward. Accessing resources required unnecessary steps. From a management perspective, manual processes were increasing admin time.

They were asking:

“Why is it so difficult for members to renew?”
“How can we simplify event bookings and payments?”
“How do we reduce duplicate data entry?”

The challenge wasn’t visibility. It was usability for their members.

Solution

We began with a full review of the existing platform, focusing on how members actually interacted with it.

From there, we rebuilt the website around three key pillars: clarity, functionality, and manageability.

Here’s what that looked like:

A structured member journey: Simplified renewals and streamlined event booking processes, reducing friction in key actions.

Integrated functionality: A members’ area designed to support bookings, payments, document access, and CRM requirements in a more cohesive way.

Manageable in-house CMS: A platform NFAN can update internally, reducing reliance on external support.

Throughout the project, the focus remained on structure first, then design. The visual refresh followed the functionality, not the other way around.

Result

The new website has removed a lot of the friction that members were experiencing day to day.

Key tasks like renewals, event bookings and accessing resources are now more straightforward, reducing the need for members to contact the NFAN team for support.

From an internal perspective, the platform is easier to manage, with less reliance on manual processes and duplicate data entry.

The result is a website that works as a tool for both members and the organisation, supporting how NFAN operates rather than creating extra work.

Testimonial

“It’s been amazing, really. The way we’re able to feed back live on the system. We’ve had weekly catch-ups with the team, and nothing has been too much trouble.

Probably the best thing that’s come from this whole process with Surge is that any questions are answered with, ‘Yes, we can do that,’ which is exactly what you want to hear from an agency.

We’re really proud to launch the new website at the conference this year. It’s been a really big moment for the association, so it’s really exciting.”
